The Nordic School aim to offer Danish, Norwegian and Swedish language classes every school year. The purpose of the language classes is to maintain and support the language skills the children already have.
The Swedish language classes are taught after the Swedish “Skolverket”s curriculum. The Danish and Norwegian classes have study plans made by the teachers. Finnish language classes are offered by the Finnish Education Association – Elimu.
In order to offer language classes we need a minimum of 5 students/language. The language classes follow the school calendar and the children will not have language classes during school breaks.
The children attend the class once a week and the children are divided into groups based on age and language level. A class is 1-2 hours long including a snack break depending on the children’s age.
Criteria for attending language classes at the Nordic school:
The child must be older than 6 year or turn 6 during the school year.
One parent should be speaking the language in question.
The language should be used daily in the child’s home.
Finnish classes are offered by the Finnish Education Association – Elimu.
2018-2019 the classes are held on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30pm – 6pm at the Nordic School.
We are currently not offering any Norwegian classes.
Feel free to send an e-mail to mail (at) nordicschool.net if you have an interested child.
Language class Fees for School Year 2018/19
Due to the difference in financial support for language classes in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, the fees will not be the same.
Denmark: No class 2018-2019
Norway: No class 2018-2019
Sweden: Paid by the Swedish government.
The fees cover salary for the teachers, books and other materials.
NB. Classes are subject to the availability of teachers and a minimum of 5 students in each class.
We therefore encourage parents to sign up their child/ren for the classes as early as possible, preferably the spring before the next school year.
