Organization Overview:

The Swedish School Society, more commonly known as The Nordic School, serves the extended expatriate community of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The school provides a nurturing, supportive environment based on Nordic pedagogical principles, for children ages 1-6 years, in the preschool program, and children ages 6-12 years, in the after-school program.

The Opportunity:

Teachers at the Nordic School work in a dynamic school environment based on Nordic principles. They can enjoy creative, educational, and fun surroundings that include excellent facilities with a large, shaded playground, swimming pool, tennis court, and spacious fanned and air-conditioned rooms. Teachers work together to plan and implement a Nordic pedagogy and curriculum that focuses on play-based learning, language development and cultural inclusion. The job comes with a medical insurance package and a yearly travel allowance. The school offers affordable accommodation on the premises. Job Responsibilities:

Preschool teachers work either in the “Kidogo” class, which serves the youngest children, ages 1 to 3 years or the “Kubwa” class, which serves our older children, ages 3 to 6 years. Teachers may also choose to work in both classes. Teachers collaborate with their colleagues to develop theme plans and weekly plans that are developmentally appropriate and meet the diverse needs of the group. Teachers develop meaningful relationships with students and their families and work to maintain a positive environment that supports all students.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Professional experience and genuine interest in children, their development and well-being.
  • Pedagogical Degree or equivalent academic certificate appropriate for working with children.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to contribute to pedagogical development and capacity building at the school.
  • Applicants must have written and verbal fluency in English and Swedish.
